Welcome to 2ndTakes Profiles. I’d like to introduce you to Sparky, one of my closest and dearest friends. He’s an implanted cardiac defibrillator. Because of my little buddy, and because of the efforts of many doctors, scientists and organizations like the American Heart Association, I survived a fatal cardiac arrhythmia. I was lucky. My mother was not. She died of the same kind of arrhythmia 22 years ago, before technologies like Sparky were as mainstream as they are today.
