Keep Moving Forward

“If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”

- Martin Luther King, Jr.

I saw this quote on Monday of this week, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It’s tough to find a sentence that better describes the need for perseverance and determination. As I began writing today, the quote came back to me, but in a very different context.

We all have the potential to do great things…to fly. But some of us are limited – socially, economically, geographically, even physically. For instance, I can’t fly...but I occasionally fall gracefully. And I can no longer run. And when atrial fibrillation has hold of me, it can become difficult to even walk. So there are days when I have no other choice but to slowly crawl. But I keep moving forward.

On Sunday, March 12th, I’m taking a walk and I want you to join me. Let’s get the blood pumping at the American Heart Association’s Heart Mini, a 5K walk starting at Fountain Square in Downtown Cincinnati. Michelle, Mallory and Anna will be with me. Maybe even Pudge. So come on...join us.

If you’d like to be a member of Team SecondTakes, please follow this link to register. Or if you can’t walk, you can contribute to our team goal of raising $3,000 for heart research. After you’re part of the team, do whatever you can to remind your family and friends that heart disease and stroke are the #1 and #5 killers in America. I don’t really dig math, but even I know the odds are favorable that some of you reading this may be affected by heart disease and stroke somewhere down the road. We really are in this together, folks.

Join me on March 12th at Fountain Square. Whether I’m walking or crawling (and I’m quite confident I may be doing both), I’ll be moving forward!
